Teacher, tutor, former Harvard
admissions interviewer
Welcome to Logoi Tutoring Services. My name is Kelly Maeshiro. I am a private academic tutor specializing in rigorous, customized tutoring and admissions consulting for motivated students. As a Harvard graduate, former Ivy League admissions interviewer, and holder of a doctorate in philosophy, I leverage my unique background and elite academic experience to help students achieve their highest ambitions. I remember what it was like as a high school senior being accepted to four out of the five Ivy League schools to which I applied, and now I work with students to achieve their own academic ambitions. My former students have successfully earned admission to top-tier universities like Harvard, Princeton, and Yale, as well as premier preparatory schools.
I work closely with students in mathematics, English, philosophy, and standardized test preparation, including the SAT, GRE, and SSAT/ISEE, using a rigorous and engaging approach fully customized to meet each student's unique learning profile and needs. My instructional approach combines an emphasis on analytic clarity, deep conceptual understanding, and speed with high expectations and unwavering support.
I was born and raised in Hawaii, where I've returned to live and teach after graduating magna cum laude from Harvard and completing two master's degrees and a PhD in New York, where I lived for seven years and wrote a dissertation on paradigms of nature in interdisciplinary perspective. I initially began tutoring as a side hustle toward the end of my doctoral program, only to discover a joy in working with students that I have found in no other kind of work.
While concrete successes like helping my students get into their chosen schools are deeply rewarding for a tutor, for me, there is no deeper joy than helping students discover their true intellectual capacities, and of all the successes I've had as a tutor, there is none of which I am prouder, or for which I count myself luckier, than that I have been able to develop such strong relationships, built on mutual admiration, with my students and their families. My students inspire me every day, and I work very hard to do the same for them.
In addition to teaching, I work in finance as an investment specialist, and I am avid bibliophile, autodidact, and lover of art, music (especially Bach and Rachmaninoff), and nature. When I'm not teaching students or managing investments, I spend most of my time reading across a wide variety of disciplines, from philosophy, literature, science, and religion to psychology, math, and finance.
Because my instruction is highly individualized, I can accept only a limited number of students at any given time, and to make the best use of both my student's time as well as my own, I am selective in working only with students who show a strong motivation to succeed.
In-person tutoring is available in Hawaii only; all other tutorials are conducted remotely. Parents or students interested in serious academic advancement are encouraged to inquire about availability.
